26.2.12

together we make a whole

I.
Teeth barricade fragmented whistling
I love
I love
you
you
remind me of pawns afraid to go forward,
unable to go back
of coins snug between cushions
not quite spent
not quite gone
I love
I love
you
you puncture my lungs more than crystal shattering
more than splinters rubbing, rubbing, rubbing
like an eggshell fragment refusing to find the spoon
get out, get out, get out
I love
I love
you

II.
Flecks of green and clashes of brown
I love
I love
you
you
remind me of jazz breaking through brick walls
rebuilding stone into heart
of new words, written down
not to forget
not for others to speak
I love
I love
you
you puncture my lungs more than crystal shattering
more than that hum, that tune
like hunger clenching my stomach
I need, I need, I need
I love
I love
you

  3. Yes, intense...you describe it so well..the clenching, breaking, puncturing, shattering..

  4. A lot of emotion tanked up in this one, Kelly. Enjoyed it a lot. The repetition drives home the point.

  5. Reading the poem brings out feeling like chiseling raw pieces of a sculpture. Like the lines "you puncture my lungs more than crystal shattering / more than that hum, that tune"
