Following madness, I draw a straight line
I savor the silence and search for divine
music can no longer still me
I no longer possess what is mine
Slamming the door I drive west
as if distance is a noble quest
music can no longer still me
I am but a soul distressed
Finding the ocean, I wade
hoping to find what has strayed
music can no longer still me
I hum to beating waves unmade
wading in the ocean is a good thing...wading in the ocean and humming even better...i do this a lot...satisfies the distressed soul...nice..
ReplyDeletenice...i love going to the ocean...i often find my rhythm there...and even though music is my usual fare it def does not compare...ok you made this one look doable for me....
ReplyDeletewhen music can no longer still you, where can you turn?
ReplyDeletecare for those age’d until the end
I know te feel of S3. Very well presented and honestly written. Excellente.
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting twist on the form, taking that unrhymed third line and locking it into the quatrain series, essentially making it the common thread. When read, it's as if that third line is the insistent voice in the head, that keeps on repeating what you already know to be true.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great line: "Following madness, I draw a straight line"
ReplyDeleteI've been there before in thinking the "distance is a noble quest" great line, and a good read.

Nice combination of prompts!
ReplyDeleteI specially like the last stanza..waves unmade is such an intriguing line ~
ReplyDeleteI hum to beating waves unmade...for me, this line turns this to a poem of metaphysical natures...collapsing waves to shape our path...probably going too deep...but you certainly did the form justice! :)
ReplyDeleteI am struck by Sam and Tash's response. Both of their comments occurred to me as I read this work. Having driven south all day long yesterday seeing some sights unlike any I have ever experienced, I understand driving into the setting sun blinding in its light until the twilight of the day, with the promise of an ocean there that answers questions not even posed. Wonderful piece!
